The Coast Guard Academy’s Newest DEI Push

Image
By Michael R. Shevock DEI is a bad idea. It is divisive, racist, and anti-meritocratic. Coleman Hughes , Ayaan Hirsi Ali , Elon Musk , and a host of other first-rate minds have vigorously come out against it.  Yet, our Coast Guard leadership continues to promote it without discussion or debate. For an objective observer, that should be the first clue that something is very, very wrong. Supporters of this ideology are fond of the term ‘cultural competence,’ which they seem to believe is obtainable in a seminar or a classroom, but there are other paths to knowledge. For example, I enjoyed twenty-eight years in federal law enforcement, which, among other things, afforded me familiarity with the inside of a crack-house. Here are are some things I learned first-hand: (1) Underclass black America is indeed suffering unacceptable levels of violence and generational poverty; (2) Malcolm X was absolutely correct when he identified white liberals as an impediment to the progr...

Gov. Evers Is Taking Action on His Own Legislative Maps MONDAY MORNING

Image
Gov. Tony Evers is taking action on his own legislative maps on Monday morning, Wisconsin Right Now has learned. Sources say the governor has scheduled a 9 a.m. press conference at the State Capitol, and he's billing it as taking action on his own maps proposal (t echnically Senate Bill 488 ), sources told WRN. However, it seems unlikely that he would veto the maps and then hold press conferences about it around the state. More likely, he's going to hold press conferences touting the maps as "fair," even though they are anything but - they rig it so that Democrats seize control of the Legislature under multiple credible scenario...

The Taylor Swift Phenomenon Explained

Image
I am a Swiftie. More than that, I’m the Swiftie. At the ripe age of five, I sang her songs and danced to her music videos. Now, at 18, I still sing her songs and dance to her music videos, but now I also analyze and cry to her lyrics, spend thousands (of my parents’) money on concert tickets and merch, and spend countless hours online ruthlessly and knowledgeably defending her name from random strangers on Facebook and TikTok. But I love what I do for this 33-year-old woman who doesn’t know my existence, and I’ll continue to fight in her army and, eventually, die on her hill.  In the last months, Taylor Swift has absolutely blown up in the pop culture atmosphere. Re-recording her albums, going on the world-renowned Eras Tour, and now, being the new face for the NFL (I’m just kidding, football bros. Not really, though).  So, what has caused this recent Taylor Swift phenomenon? Why is she booming now after 17 years in the game? And why do you have to see her every time you watch ...
